Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for outdoor adventures in WNY.

Alder Bottom
State wetland in the Town of Sherman, Chautauqua County.

Western New York Outdoors home

Description:

This wetland area is located at the intersection of Route 76 and Idora Road.  It has an abundance of plants and animals.  Many migratory birds and waterfowl species can be observed here.  The woodlands make an ideal habitat for wild turkey.  River otters have also been released into the swamp.  Angling and hunting opportunities are permitted.

Due to its connection with the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and converging into the Allegheny River, French Creek is the most diverse aquatic system in the Northeast.  Sherman is at the beginning of this long creek which flows thru the country and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico.
