Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for outdoor adventures in WNY.

Cattaraugus
State Forest in the Town of Mansfield and New Albion, Cattaraugus County.

Western New York Outdoors home

Description:

This forest is located southeast of the village of Cattaraugus.  The easiest way to get there is from the Five Points intersection where Route 14 meets Krager Hill Road.  Then turn right onto West Hill Road.  The state forest truck trails passes thru a variety of woodlands.  There are a few trails to explore, remote wilderness, and nice rural farm areas to view.  This rugged, hilly terrain is ideal for turkey hunters.  There is a designated hiking trail off Potter Hill Road near the intersection of West Hill Road and snowmobile trail thru the forest to Jersey Hollow Road.

Beware of the bugs in late September, the wetlands are brutal for mosquito assault!   There is a small pond with bass and panfish near a picnic area.  Nearby public fishing access is available on Mansfield Creek at various parking areas, they are off Maples Road.
